Towanda Overall 5-8 (NTL: 4-6)

Athens Overall 11-0

2nd goal – Athens – 13th min 2nd half – Jhonatan Alegre

3rd goal – Athens – 216th min 2nd half – Pat Riley

Towanda Recap:  We played a very defensive game and did not get our offense going until the second half. Tyler Bennett and Joey Steele had a busy night on defense, always containing and covering through balls. Athens is a good passing team and they work the ball well inside the attacking third. Now we are under pressure to win the next 4 games to qualify for district play. Overall I was happy with our effort, as we kept working the ball in tight spaces, and keeping the game wide. Kevin Jurnack and Anthony Ventello did their share on midfield

Wellsboro Recap:  It was a well played game from both sides, although Wellsboro seemed to control most of the game. We had a couple of defensive errors that Mansfield capitalized on, but the boys really pulled it together. In the end, Wellsboro wanted that win and they went out there and got it!

Towanda Recap: During the 1st half we came out strong, forcing Liberty to play deep on defense, we just could not finish our shots. We kept the game wide and pressured the midfield. Late in the half goalie Cody Curry kept us on the game as Liberty created several shots on goal two of which were low to the near post followed by another low shot to the far post’ Cody was terrific as he stayed focused on the net.

Early in the second half John Davis (Liberty striker) broke through our defense and managed to score a great goal. Two minutes later Anthony Ventello tied the game for us on a double assist by Matt Susko and Dustin Mattocks. We knew this goal was coming it was just a matter of time, and I am glad in came early in the half.  Anthony scored the wining goal off an indirect kick by Ryan Cora just outside the 18th. Our defense did a terrific job containing Liberty’s fast forwards Mitch Pequignot and John Davis; Nick Kravitz, Tyler Bennett and Justin Sekula worked hard together sweeping the 18.

Towanda Recap:

We found ourselves down by two goals early in the game, as Sayre came out strong and ready to put pressure on our defense.  However once we got into a great passing game, we did not stop scoring. Four unanswered goals gave us the confidence to win the game and we did. Sayre managed to score the last goal of the game as they pressure the defensive third with what it seamed 11 players.

I was extremely pleased with our team performance; they work hard, dominated the midfield and kept the game wide and deep into Sayre’s defense zone.  Kevin Jurnack and Anthony Ventello were on fire all night long, with the support of Ryan Cora, Justin Sekula and Jesse Olsen; they provided all the thru balls, all the switches of field needed to create scoring opportunities.

Anthony Ventello leads Towanda with 30 career goals, this is a tremendous effort for a central midfielder, and he has a great team behind him.

Towanda Recap:

Towanda played a good offensive game, but could connect the through balls, and could not finish inside the 18 as Northeast’s defense did a good job containing our strikers. Tyler Bennett did a fantastic job for us creating shots of goal and reinforcing the midfield line. The game did not go our way.

Wellsboro Recap:

Good teams are able to put together a full 80 minutes of soccer. We have proven that we are unable to accomplish this feat. We put together a fantastic 70 minutes of soccer and absolutely self destructed in the last ten minutes. A 3-0 lead, all we had to do was finish the game strong and we failed to do so. I don't think it gets much more embarrassing than that.

Towanda Recap:

We made a couple of minor errors on defense and forward Jordan Derstine capitalized with two first half goals. Towanda Kevin Jurnack and Anthony Ventello had a tremendous game for us, as they work together distributing the ball in midfield and creating scoring chances.  Anthony had a tremendous goal just before half, beating 2 defenders and the goalie with a terrific individual effort.  We came out and played a very strong 2nd half, moving well out of our defense zone to midfield and creating shots on goal, all with great effort. Mansfield’s Ethan Wilston scored on the 8th minute on a unstoppable PK. Last goal of the match was scored by Anthony Ventello on a Kevin Jurnack assist, as we continued to surprise Mansfield keeper with low shots to the corners.
