Another Close One for Lady Hornets

In NTL East-West action last night, the Lady Hornets pulled out a narrow victory over Canton in overtime with a score of 54-51. Mackenzie Marple led the way with 19 points, followed by Raina Rogers with 13 points. Taylor Acorn had her first double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds and Hannah Zuchowski added 8 points and pulled in 14 rebounds.

"I was really pleased with our defensive effort tonight, however we had another lapse in the third quarter where we were outscored 14-6! We just can't afford to have those types of breakdowns in our game," stated coach Mary Grab.

On the really positive side, the Lady Hornets pulled down a total of 42 rebounds despite playing much of the game without center Andrea Dean.

"Canton was a well balanced, quick team without a true post, so we needed to get our guards and forwards into the action more tonight", continued Grab. "Andrea did a fine job and Kiana Acorn did a nice job off the bench, but when Canton had a combination of five guards and small forwards out there, we had to change our defensive plan."

The win brings the Lady Hornets overall record to 7 wins, 3 losses. The Lady Hornets next face Northeast Bradford at home on Monday, January 23rd.

In JV action, Center Jordan Butters led the way to a win over Canton with 15 points; Paige Carr added 8 points and Jessie Catherman dropped in 4 points. The final score: Wellsboro 31, Canton 18.
