Hornets drop title game to Lewisburg

The Wellsboro Varsity boys basketball team lost their first game of the 2012-13 season as they fell to Lewisburg in the championship game of the Montoursville Tournament, 43-38.

The Hornets got off to a slow start, and played from behind the entire game. After trailing 5-0 early in the first quarter, Wellsboro managed to come within 3 points of Lewisburg at the half as the trailed 24-21. The team would later cut the lead to 33-31 as the fourth quarter started, but were unable to produce points down the stretch.

Junior Joey Doganiero led the team with 8 points, while Junior Dylan Prough and Sophomore Kieron Smethers each had 7. Seniors Jordan Jackson and Matt Reese had 6 points, and Sophomore Michael Pietropola recorded 4 to round out the scoring. Jackson was also named to the All-Tournament team.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 8-1. The team will be back in action on Friday, January 4, 2013 as they travel to North Penn.
