The Wellsboro boys soccer team dropped their first game of the season as they lost to Galeton 4-3 in overtime.

Galeton got on the board at 24:12 of the first half when Emilio Martinez scored on a penalty shot, but the Hornets tied the game at 10:20 when Senior Cody DeHaas scored off an assist from Sophomore Tucker Worthington. Galeton would go on to take the lead, 2-1, just before the end of the first half.

At 38:58 of the second half Wellsboro tied the game again as Senior Erik Stemcosky scored off an assist from Junior Austin Haskins. Galeton retook the lead just 4:28 later when Martinez scored on another penalty shot.

The Hornets tied the game when Galeton made a mistake and the ball went into their own net to force overtime. Galeton closed out the contest at 1:26 of overtime as Jacob Battersen scored to give the Tigers the win.

"It was a hard fought game," head coach John Shaffer said. "We were chasing from the start. We came out flat in the heat. I am proud of how they fought back three times. All credit to Galeton, they are the best Galeton team we have seen in four years."

In the J.V. game, the Hornets won 2-1. Freshmen Josiah Hill and Jacob Singer scored and Casey Hoover had 8 saves in goal.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 2-1 (2-1 NTL) on the year. The team will be back in action on Thursday, September 12 as they host Athens.
