Hornet wrestlers pick up first season win

The Wellsboro wrestling team picked up their first win of the 2012-13 season as they defeated Northeast Bradford 48-18.

The Hornets started the match off with three forfeits in favor of Junior Nate Logan (106), Freshman Tyler Evans (113), and Senior Adam Cleveland. Junior Nate Ingerick recorded the win true win of the night as he pinned Cody Bond in 1:10 at 126 lbs.

Junior Brandon Owlett picked up a 3-2 decision over Austin Saxer at 145 lbs. in between forfeits for Senior Josh Kennedy (138), Sophomore Jack Chambers (152), and Junior Trevin Hughes. The other two wins by the Hornets came from Seniors Chad Daugherty and Eli Kennedy.

Daugherty pinned Jordan Krudup in 10 seconds at 195 lbs. and Kennedy scored a 7-1 decision over Richard Forbes at 220 lbs.

"We've all been working hard especially for this match," Daugherty said. "It was our senior night which made us want the win even more. We had a lot of key forfeits so the matches we did have we needed to win and we did."

With the win, the Hornets improve their record to 1-9 (0-3 NTL Large Division). The team will be back in action this Friday and Saturday as they participate in the New Oxford tournament.
