The Wellsboro Lady Hornets gave NTL West rival their first league loss of the 2012-13 season as they won 41-26 Thursday night.

After struggling much of the first half of the regular season, the Lady Hornets have finally found their groove and have now moved to one game short of .500 with their win Thursday night.

"We were a little nervous going into tonight's game," said head coach Mary Grab. "Williamson has a dominant center in Lori Horton and a strong shooting forward in Kim Daugherty. They have been taking advantage of their great inside game and, frankly, I was concerned about matching up against them.

"We changed a few things on defense and relied on our team being to communicate and protect each other's backs and our girls got it done! Mackenzie Marple put a lot of pressure on Horton consistently throughout the game and everyone else stepped up to aggressively cover in the zone. Our rebounding and shooting percentage were poor in the first half but our defense helped to make up for that."

The Hornets led 9-6 after the opening quarter but Williamson hung tough, holding the deficit to three points at the half, but a  26-14 run in the second half to pull out the win.

Marple led the Hornets with 15 points while Senior Kimberly Acorn added 12. Senior Hannah Zuchowski contributed eight points while Freshman Sarah Ingerick, Freshman Jada Jackson and Sophomore Jordan Butters rounded out the scoring with two points a piece.

With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 7-8 (4-1 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, January 22 as they travel to Wyalusing.
