Girls Cross Country beats Athens, Wyalusing

The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Cross Country team remained undefeated as they defeated both Athens and Wyalusing on Tuesday, September 16.

Wellsboro beat Athens 24-34 and Wyalusing 15-50. Junior Jada Jackson was the top finisher for the girls team as she came home second in 22:33. The Lady Hornets then finished fifth through ninth as Freshman Anna Bleggi (22:59), Senior Annie Sweeney (23:43), Junior Camryn Keane (23:52), Junior Jordyn Coffee (23:57), and Junior Samantha Bailey (24:17) all ran together.

Senior Caitlynn Butler finished 13th (25:49) and Freshman Aiyana Hazlett was 18th (29:14).

For the boys, Wellsboro lost 44-16 to Athens and 48-15 to Wyalusing. Sophomore Alden Weiner was the hghest finisher in 11th place at 20:16. Sophomore Bryon Callahan was 14th (20:51), Freshman Kyle Wilson was 16th (21:38), Freshman Connor Brought was 17th (21:43), Senior Dalton Messmer was 22nd (23:37), and Freshman Noah Smith was 26th (29:10).

In the Middle School races, Wellsboro swept the meet. The girls team beat Athens 15-50 and the boys beat Athens and Wyalusing 15-50. The top 5 girls were Jamie Palmer, Zoe Iseri, Dani Hunt, Brooke Unangst, Sophia Robinson. The top 5 boys were Aidan Perry, Bergen Weiner, Kristopher Stringham, Zack Bush, and John Mundy.

The Varsity girls improve to 4-0 while the boys fall to 0-4. The teams will be back in action on Saturday, September 20 as they participate in the Altoona Invite.
