Girls track first, boys second at Athens and Canton

The Wellsboro Varsity girls track team remained undefeated as they scored 114 and the boys finished second with 69 at Athens and Canton on Tuesday, April 22.

Wellsboro swept the 100m with Sophomore Jada Jackson in first (13.09), Junior Lauren Bleggi in second (13.27), and Sophomore Lindsey Graver in third (13.33). Bleggi took home first in the 200m in 28.34, Graver won the 400m (1:02.85), Jackson won the 800m (2:38.37), and Sophomore Camryn Keane won the 3200m run (13:57.72) after finishing second in the 1600m run in 6:09.54.

Junior Elise Becker (17.69) and Sophomore Haley Zuchowski (17.94) were first and second in the 100m hurdles and Zuchowski (52.22) and Sophomore Emma Eccher (53.33) took home the top two spots in the 300m hurdles.

Wellsboro took two out of three realy events as the 4x100m team won in 54.49 and the 4x800m team ran 11:40.1 to take first.

Jackson won the shot put at 31' 4", Senior Katie Straniere won the discus (87' 10"), Kaelyn Keane won the javelin (96' 9"), Sophomore Joey Taft (7' 6") and Freshman Melody Benner (7' 0") were first and second in the pole vault, Graver was first in the long jump (15' 3.75"), and Jackson won the triple jump at 37' 1".

For the boys, Senior Dan Brooks was second in the 100m (11.71) and third in the 200m (24.61). Senior Joey Doganiero won the 400m (52.1) and the 800m (2:10.87), Sophomore David Zavetsky was third in the 1600m (5:13.11), and Freshman Alden Weiner was third in the 3200m (12:00.01).

Senior Blair Carson was third in the 110m hurdles at 17.88 and Junior Jack Chambers won the 300m hurdles in 43.56 with Sophomore Rich Tardieu in third (46.22) and Junior Kieron Smethers in fourth (47.58).

Wellsboro took home first in the 4x100m relay at 45.94 and the 4x400m at 3:45.57.

Senior Blake Gamble finished second in the shot put (43' 11") and was third in the discus (111' 11"), Junior Nick Marple won the javelin (138' 7"), Tardieu was second in the high jump (5' 6") followed by Smethers and Marple in third (5' 4"), Sophomore Anthony Cooper was third in the pole vault (10' 0"), Junior Michael Pietropola was second in the long jump (18' 7.25"), and Tardieu was second in the triple jump (37' 3.25").

The girls improve to 6-0 (6-0 NTL) and the boys improve to 4-2 (4-2 NTL). Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, April 26 as they particiapte in the Lock Haven High School Classic.
