Hornets top CV, 57-43

The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team picked up their second win of the 2014 season with a 57-43 victory over Cowanesque Valley on Friday, December 12.

The Hornets led 16-11 after the opening frame and extended their lead to 33-21 at the half. Cowanesque would outscore Wellsboro 12-7 in the third quarter to cut into the Hornets lead, but the home team would outscore the Indians 17-10 in the final quarter to take the victory.

Senior Michael Pietropola had his second double-double of the year as he led the team with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Kieron Smethers scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high 19 rebounds and blocked three shots. Junior Dawson Prough was the final Hornet in double-figures as he scored 12 points on the night.

Rounding out the scoring was Sophomore Brandon Lamphier with six and Senior Brieux Thibaut with five.

In the JV game the Hornets won 45-23 to start the season 1-0. Sophomore Jacob Singer scored 13 to lead the team and Freshman Quinn Henry added 10 points.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 2-0 and will be back in action tonight as they host Montoursville.
