Three first half goal led to a 3-1 victory for the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team over Northeast Bradford on Monday, October 13.

Junior Joe Allen got the Hornets on the scoreboard first in the 25th minute as he scored on an assist from Junior Nick Webster. Senior Gillan Alafoginis scored the Hornets' second goal on a penalty kick in the 28th minute and later converted an assist by Sophomore Josiah Hill in the 32nd minute to take a 3-0 halftime lead.

Northeast Bradford avoided the shut out in the 77th minute on a penalty kick.

Senior Goalie Jake Mitchell recorded six saves on the night and the Hornets out shot Northeast Bradford 11-8.

"The boys played well tonight," said head coach John Shaffer. "Joe Allen scored a great first goal and then won the penalty for our second. Gillan's free kick may have been the goal of the season.

"The boys were able to match the physicality brought by NEB and that allowed our soccer to shine through. In the second half we focused on some tactical ideas and passed the ball well even though we didn't score. Giving up the penalty kick was a disappointment but we got the result," Shaffer continued.

In the JV game, the Hornets beat Northeast Bradford 1-0 on a goal by Freshman Gabe Leach.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 11-5 (11-5 NTL). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, October 15 as they travel to Troy.
