Hornet basketball falls to Wyalusing

The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team had their six game win streak snapped in a 61-54 loss to Wyalusing on Wednesday, December 23.

The Hornets kept the game close through the first three quarters as they trailed 14-13 after the first and 26-25 at halftime. Wellsboro outscored Wyalusing 12-10 behind six points from junior Alden Weiner to take a 37-36 lead after the third. The fourth quarter killed Wellsboro, however, as Wyalusing put up 25 points to Wellsboro's 17 to pick up the NTL Division 1 win. Wyalusing sophomore Jon Morrison scored 11 of his game-high 23 points in the final quarter.

Three Hornets scored in double-digits on the night as senior Dawson Prough and sophomore Quinn Henry each had 13 points and sophomore Dalton Prough finished with 10. Weiner and fellow junior Jacob Singer each had eight points on the night and junior Brandon Lamphier pitched in with two.

Dalton Prough had 9 rebounds in the game and Weiner grabbed six (five offensive). Dalton Prough and Henry each made four assists, Dawson Prough made three steals, and Dalton Prough blocked two shots.

The JV team kept their perfect record alive and are now 8-0 with a 37-18 victory. Freshman Andrew Brelo led the team with 11 points, freshman Brandyn Tuttle finished with seven, freshman Tanner Button had six, freshman Taynton Repard and sophomore Nic Ingerick each scored five points, and freshman Holden Kennedy added three points.

The loss drops the Hornets' record to 6-2 (1-1 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Monday, December 28 as they travel to Montoursville.
