Hornet track sweeps North Penn, Williamson

The Wellsboro Track teams each won their final regular season meets of the season as they swept North Penn and Williamson on Monday, May 4.

The boys scored 67 points en route to the win, followed by North Penn in 2nd (61.5) and Williamson (57.5) in 3rd.

Sophomore Casey Hoover was 5th (21.0) in the 110m hurdles, Senior Brieux Thibaut (11.5) and Jack Chambers (11.7) swept the 100m, Juniors Isaac Leach (5:15.7) and Dakota Cleveland (5:19) were 2nd and 3rd in the 1600m, Thibaut (55.9) won the 400m, Hoover was 3rd in the 300m hurdles (55.0), and Leach (2:21.7) was 2nd in the 800m.

The 4x100m team of Seniors Nick Marple, Kieron Smethers, Junior Rich Tardieu, and Sophomore Brandon Lamphier were 2nd in 48.5 and the 4x400m team of Leach, Chambers, Sophomores Jacob Singer and Devan Warner were 2nd in 4:06.4. Thibaut (24.4) won the 200m with Smethers (24.9) in 3rd and Chambers (25.1) in 4th, and Freshman Connor Brought (13:09.2) was 4th in the 3200m.

Singer (15 ft 3 in) was 6th in the long jump, Thibaut (38 ft 8 in) and Tardieu (38 ft 3 in) took the top two spots in the triple jump, and Marple (5 ft 8 in), Tardieu (5 ft 6 in), Smethers (5 ft 6 in) swept the high jump. Freshmen Gabe Leach (8 ft 3 in) and Devin Webster (7 ft 9 in) were 2nd and 3rd in the pole vault, Senior Bill Lupkowski (38 ft 0.75 in) was 3rd in the shot put and 4th in the discus (99 ft 6.25 in), Freshman Collin Pietropola (80 ft 9 in) was 5th in the discus, and Lamphier (126 ft 6 in) was 2nd in the javelin.

For the girls, Wellsboro won the meet with 86.5 points, followed by Williamson (52.5) in 2nd, and North Penn (46) in 3rd. The 4x800m team of Senior Caitlynn Butler and Annie Sweeney, Junior Camryn Keane, and Sophomore Janessa Davis were 2nd in 11:18.3. Junior Haley Zuchowski (17.4) was 1st in the 100m hurdles, Senior Lauren Bleggi (13.1) won the 100m and Junior Lindsey Graver (13.7) finished 3rd.

The 4x100m team of Freshman Lizzie Poirier, Juniors Mikayla Feil and Raisa Rogers and Bleggi won in 56.5, Zuchowski (1:07.8) was 3rd in the 400m, Freshman Jillian Graver was 2nd in the 300m hurdles (1:08.7), Sweeney (2:48) was 2nd in the 800m, and Bleggi (29.4) won the 200m.

Davis (13:55.4) won the 3200m run, the 4x400m team of Junior Hannah Guindon, Zuchowski, Keane, and Butler won in 4:45.6, Junior Jada Jackson (15 ft 7 in) won the long jump with Lindsey Graver (14 ft 9 in) in 2nd, Jackson (34 ft 3 in) and Lindsey Graver (30 ft 7 in) swept the triple jump, and Rogers (4 ft 8) and Feil (4 ft 8 in) swept the high jump.

Junior Joey Taft (7 ft 8 in) and Freshman Kaitlyne Kramer (7 ft 2 in) were 2nd and 3rd in the pole vault, Sophomore Samantha Spurgeon (27 ft 7 in) was 3rd in the shot put, Senior Meghan Bodine (76 ft 11 in) finished 2nd in the discus, and Jackson (83 ft 6 in) won the javelin.

The boys improve to 7-3 and the girls are 9-1 on the year. Both teams will be back in action at the NTL Championships on Saturday, May 9 at Athens.
