Hornet wrestlers fall to Towanda, 63-9

The Wellsboro Varsity Wrestling team won two matches as they were defeated 63-9 by Towanda on Wednesday, December 16.

The Black Knights picked up five wins by forfeit at 113 lbs., 120 lbs., 126 lbs., 182 lbs., and 220 lbs. The Hornets two wins came by seniors Tyler Evans and Owen Covert. Evans pinned Theron Hottle in 1:42 at 138 lbs. and Covert won a 5-3 decision at 285 lbs. over Mitchell Peters.

Towanda's Keegan Kisner (145 lbs.) won a 9-2 decision over junior Caleb Sinkler, Steven Yates (152 lbs.) pinned sophomore Cory Busch in 1:35, and Breycin Fulmer (160 lbs.) pinned freshman Brennan Catherman in 2:26. Dayton Wickwire (170 lbs.) pinned freshman Hunter Brown in 3:59 and freshman Robert Brown was pinned in 1:43 by Michael Johnson at 195 lbs.

The Middle School team also lost on the night, 60-24, to fall to 1-1 on the year.

The loss drops the Varsity team's record to 0-2 (0-2 NTL). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, December 22 as they host Wyalusing.
