Hornets beat Galeton, 3-1

The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team kept their perfect streak alive with a 3-1 win over Galeton on Tuesday, September 22.

The Hornets scored the game's first goal in a hard fought, physical contest at the 13 minute mark. Junior Jacob Singer scored off a throw-in by sophomore Nic Ingerick to take a 1-0 lead. Singer added his second goal five minutes later as junior Josiah Hill threw the ball in from the sidelines to sophomore Tanner Runyan, who got the ball back to Hill, who then sent a shot to Singer. Sophomore Gabe Leach got the ball off a header by Singer, who returned it back on a bicycle kick with Singer finishing with a header to make the score 2-0, Wellsboro.

Galeton avoided the shut out with a goal towards the end of the first half to cut it to 2-1 Wellsboro going into halftime. Wellsboro added their third goal with 34:06 on the clock as freshman Cam Tennis cleaned up a missed header by senior Tucker Worthington to increase the Hornets' lead to 3-1 and the win.

"I'm proud of how the boys responded to adversity tonight. We scored three scrappy goals and then went down a man with 24 minutes still remaining in the match," said head coach John Shaffer. "The boys rallied together. Our depth really helped tonight. We pulled off some of our artists and had soldiers ready to defend and we saw the game out in a very professional manner. Great work by the back four tonight and our goalie. Singer put himself in the right spots to score tonight."

The Hornets out-shot Galeton 12-8 and junior Casey Hoover made three saves in goal.

In the JV game Wellsboro won 3-0 to improve to 3-0.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 6-0 (4-0 NTL). The team will be back in action on Thursday, September 24 as they travel to Williamson.
