The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team continued their phenomenal 2015 season as they shutout Towanda 6-0 on Wednesday, October 7.

"I'm very happy with how the boys played tonight," said head coach John Shaffer. "They passed the ball crisply and really kept the game moving. I was happy to be able to get the varsity reserves in for a chunk of time and get the starters rested for tomorrow's game."

Junior Josiah Hill scored his 22nd and 23rd goal in the first half. Hill's first goal came with 20:41 left in the first half off an assist from senior Tucker Worthington on a throw-in from senior Nick Webster to make it 1-0. His second goal came with 7:34 remaining in the half as senior Dawson Prough assisted to make it 2-0 Hornets.

The team held their 2-0 lead through halftime, then proceeded to score four more second half goals to put the game out of reach.

Senior Sean Dooley found the ball in front of the Towanda goal with 37:44 on the clock in the second half after another Webster throw in deflected off a Towanda defender to make it 3-0 Hornets. At the 21:29 mark, Worthington scored his only goal of the night, again directly in front of the Towanda goal, off an assist from Hill to make it 4-0.

The last two Hornet goals were scored by younger members of the team as sophomore Noah Fitch found the back of the net with 15:08 remaining to make it 5-0. Freshman Brett Rudy scored the final goal with 7:36 remaining in the contest after stealing the ball away from Towanda in front their own goal to make it 6-0.

Junior Casey Hoover made 5 saves in goal on the night to earn his sixth shutout of the season. Wellsboro outshot Towanda 18-5 and had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

In the JV game, the Hornets won 7-1 to improve to 7-0-1.

The win improves the Hornets' record to 12-0-1 (8-0-1 NTL). The team will be back in action later today as they host Athens.
