The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team suffered a 53-46 loss to Wyalusing on Thursday, January 29.

The loss was the Lady Hornets' second of the year to Wyalusing, but this time they made it a game as they lost 73-38 earlier in the year. After the first quarter of Thursday's game, Wyalusing held an 11-6 advantage but Wellsboro fought back and outscored Wyalusing 9-6 in the second quarter behind seven points from Junior Sarah Ingerick to trail 17-15 at halftime.

Wellsboro caught fire early in the third quarter as Junior Alexa Singer scored eight of the Lady Hornets' 15 points, but Wyalusing would outscore them 22-15 to extend their lead once they figured out Wellsboro's zone defense.

Wellsboro outscored Wyalusing 16-14 in the fourth quarter, but they couldn't break the third quarter deficit.

Ingerick finished with a game-high 21 points and Singer finished with 15. Senior Jordan Butters and Freshman Rachael Tuttle each scored three points, and Junior Jada Jackson and Freshman Lizzie Poirier each pitched in two.

Jackson led the team with 16 rebounds, Ingerick recorded six steals, and Senior Peyton Wilson contributed four assists.

In the JV game, the Lady Hornets won 38-24 to improve to 12-3. Poirier was the game's leading scorer with 12 points.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 9-10 (3-5 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Saturday, January 31 as they host Sayre.
