Covert takes 3rd at Sectionals

Senior Owen Covert took home a 3rd place finish at Sectionals and the Hornets finished 10th as a team on Saturday, February 20.

Wyalusing won the team championship with 217 points, Athens was 2nd with 175, and Towanda was 3rd with 143.

Covert pinned Canton's Sawyer Wooster (1:36) in the quarterfinals, was pinned by North Penn-Liberty's Justin Kriner (2:48) in the semi-finals, pinned Athens' MItch Orshal (1:34) in the consolation semi-finals, and scored a 10-2 major decision over Sullivan County's Jeremy Houck in the 3rd place match to move on to Districts.

In the prelims, junior Caleb Sinkler pinned NEB's Dante Jefferies (31 seconds) at 145 lbs. and sophomore Cory Busch was pinned by Williamson's Trey Zimmerman (3:02) at 152 lbs. Sinkler lost a 17-5 major decision to Athens' Nate Bradley in the quarterfinals, freshman Robert Brown upset Williamson's Nate Larrison, the 2nd seed at 195 lbs., with an 8-7 decision to move to the semi-finals, and sophomore Nick Ingerick was pinned by Canton's Brady Bryington (2:23) at 220 lbs.

Brown lost his semi-final match to Athens' Jordan Alliger by pin (2:21), Sinkler won his first round consolation match over North Penn-Liberty's Carl Dinger by a 3-1 decision, and Ingerick scored a 10-4 decision over NEB's Noah Forbes. Sinkler lost his consolation semi-final match to Towanda's Keegan Kisner by 6-1 decision, Brown lost a 5-3 decision to NEB's Derrick Newman, and Ingerick was pinned by Troy's Rob Rigby (19 seconds).
