Hornet wrestlers fall to Athens

The Wellsboro Varsity Wrestling team lost 72-6 to Athens on Tuesday, January 12.

Athens picked up forfeits at 106 lbs., 113 lbs., 120 lbs., 126 lbs., 132 lbs., 182 lbs., and 220 lbs. Senior Tyler Evans lost by pin (3:58) to Kaidon Winters at 138 lbs., junior Caleb Sinkler lost an 8-2 decision at 145 lbs., and sophomore Cory Busch was pinned by Gage Cannavino at 152 lbs in 1:52.

Freshman Hunter Brown (170 lbs.) lost an 8-5 decision Erik Karisson and freshman Robert Brown (195 lbs.) was pinned by Jordan Alliger in 3:33. Senior Owen Covert picked up a pin over Mitch Orshal at 285 lbs. in 3:30, for his 10th win of the year and fifth in a row.

The Middle School team also lost on the night, 48-39. The young Hornets wrestled very well but ended up losing by forfeits. Brock Hamblin, Nick Smith, Connor Ramsey, Aidan Hauser, Alex Burrell, Danny Timmons, and Logan Henry all picked up wins.

The loss drops the Hornets to 0-12 (0-6 NTL). The team will be back in action on Thursday, January 21 at Troy.
