Lady Hornets shut out CV, 7-0

The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team improved to 5-0 and picked up their third shut out of the year with a 7-0 win over Cowanesque Valley on Monday, April 18.

The Lady Hornets scored 3 runs in the first inning as seniors Sarah Ingerick, Darci Warriner, and Alexa Singer all crossed home plate. Senior Jenny Young and sophomore Alyssa Yungwirth each scored in the fifth inning, and Young and sophomore Kailee Clymer scored in the sixth to help the Lady Hornets remain undefeated on the year, and pick up their ninth win in their last 10 games.

Warriner and Young each had multiple hits on the afternoon. Warriner was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Young was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 runs. Singer and Ingerick, sophomores Brianne Keane, Sydney Tremper, and Yungwirth, and freshman Emma Poirier all added hits. Ingerick and Tremper each had doubles and an RBI, and Singer and Yungwirth each had 2 RBI's.

Singer started on the mound and allowed only 2 hits in 5 innings of work with 5 strikeouts and a walk to improve to 3-0 on the year. Yungwirth worked 2 innings in relief, striking out 3 and giving up 2 hits.

The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 5-0. The team will take on Athens on the road later today.
