Middle School baseball, softball top Canton, Williamson

The Wellsboro Middle School Baseball and Softball team each picked up wins over Canton and Williamson on Saturday, April 30.

Baseball

The Middle School Baseball team beat Canton 11-5 and Williamson 12-2 to improve to 6-1-1.

The Hornets scored an early run in the first inning before Canton tied it in the bottom half of the inning, but Wellsboro would add 5 runs in the third, 3 in the fourth, and 2 in the fifth to pick up the victory. Clayton Orsborn and Billy Lechler pitched in the game, combining for 3 strikeouts.

Orsborn went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with 2 runs scored to lead Wellsboro. Carson Davis was 3-for-4 with a run scored, and Silas Wagaman was 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored. Lechler, Ty Morral, Tyler Hancock, and Justin Wilcox also added hits.

Against Williamson, the Hornets scored an early run before Williamson tied it at 1-1 after the first. Wellsboro then scored 4 in the third, 2 in the fourth, and 5 in the fifth to complete the sweep. Davis and Wagaman pitched and combined for 9 strikeouts, 1 walk, and 1 hit.

Wagaman went 3-for-3 with a double and 4 runs scored, Davis was 3-for-4 with a double, Brock Hamblin was 2-for-2, and Lechler was 2-for-3 with a double. Kaeden Mann, Hancock, Wilcox, Jacob Trowbridge, and Orsborn all added hits.

Softball

The Lady Hornet Softball team beat Canton 23-1 and Williamson 11-2 to improve to 5-4. The win was also their fourth straight win.

Wellsboro scored 6 runs in the first, 4 in the second, 3 in the third, and 5 runs in the both the fourth and fifth innings to pick up the win. Ryann Adams and Georgia Macensky pitched and combined for 3 strikeouts.

Adams was 0-for-1 with 2 walks, Angela DeBockler was 1-for-1, Kerrah Clymer and Jena Boyce each went 3-for-3, Cathryn Brought was 3-for-5, Chelsie English was 1-for-5, Riley Gerges was 1-for-1, Jayden LaCoe was 1-for-2, and Lauren Singer was 2-for-5.

In the second game against Williamson, Brought struck out 10 batters in 5 innings of work to complete the sweep. Adams was 4-for-4 with 3 runs scored, Clymer walked twice, Boyce was 1-for-3 with a walk, Brought went 2-for-4, Jessa Lohr was 1-for-2, English was 1-for-2 with a run scored, Emma Rachiele scored a run, Nina Coolidge was 1-for-2 with a run, Gerges was 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored, and DeBockler walked and scored a run.

The teams will be back in action on Tuesday, May 3 at Cowanesque Valley.
