After starting the season 5-0, the Wellsboro Middle School Boys Basketball team has dropped their last three games.

With losses to Athens and Towanda earlier in the week, the Hornets were looking to right the ship on Saturday, February 20, but ended up falling 33-29 to Sayre for their third consecutive loss.

"I thought we did a better job offensively but defensively we still need to get better if we can put those to together will be alright," said head coach Jason Greenfield.

The Hornets trailed 9-8 after the first and 19-17 at the half. Wellsboro continued to stay within two points as they trailed 26-24 heading into the fourth, but Sayre outscored Wellsboro 7-5 down the stretch to pull out the win.

Billy Lechler and Ty Morral each had 8 points for the Hornets on the day.

In the B game, Sayre won 22-20. Chris Knapp led the team with 5 points and Will Poirier scored 4.

The loss drops the Hornets to 5-3. The team will be back in action tomorrow on the road in Wyalusing.
