In their second match of the 2017 golf season, the Towanda Black Knights came home 5th at the Jerry Smith Memorial First Friday Invite at Towanda Country Club on Friday, August 18.

Nine teams, eight from Pennsylvania (four districts) and one from New York, made up the field with the goal of bringing different teams together that wouldn't normally get a chance to play each other.

Horseheads won the match with a combined score of 337, followed by Central Mountain (343), Tunkhannock (357), Warrior Run (392), Towanda (393), Coudersport (412), Sullivan County (447), and Sugar Valley Rural Charter (500). South Williamsport did not record a team score.

"We played OK – playing back-to-back days might have had a little bit of an effect on our scores, and the rain most definitely was a new experience," said Towanda coach Tim Farley. "It will help us in the long run, thinking about playing in all conditions and being ready for anything that happens. We'll be looking forward to the NTL opener next week."

Tyler Hawley shot an 89 to lead the Black Knights while Connor Wilcox shot 97, Kourtney Dunn carded a 100, Jon Hoffman finished with a 107, and Dawsan Manning rounding out the group with a round of 110.

"The weather really didn’t affect play too much, at least for the more experienced kids," continued Farley. "Scores were pretty good on the top end, and we had three quality teams fighting it out for the team title. We knew Horseheads and Tunkhannock would be strong, but having never seen Central Mountain, we had no idea what they would bring. Turns out they’re pretty good, too."

The Black Knights are back in action on Tuesday, August 22 when the NTL heads to Shepard Hills to open league play.
