Hornets dominant in win over Sayre

The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team held the Sayre Redskins to 19 total points for their fourth straight win and 12th of the season on Wednesday, January 18.

The Hornets allowed Sayre a single point in the first quarter while jumping out to an 11-1 lead, then put the game away with back-to-back 17-point second and third quarters. The Hornets allowed just 6 total points the entire second half, while scoring 36 points en route to a 64-19 win.

Junior Dalton Prough led all scorers with 15 points and surpassed 500 points for his career (502), senior Jacob Singer scored 11 and senior Alden Weiner added 10 to lead the Hornets. Juniors Nic Ingerick and Collin Pietropola both scored 6 points, sophomore Brandyn Tuttle had 5, senior Brandon Lamphier and sophomore Holden Kennedy scored 4, and sophomore Bergen Weiner rounded out the scoring with 3.

Alden Weiner grabbed 6 rebounds and had 2 steals, Prough had 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block, Singer had 3 rebounds and 3 steals, and junior Quinn Henry made 6 assists.

Wellsboro won the JV game 50-29 behind 15 points from Tuttle and 8 from Kennedy.

The Hornets are now 12-3 (9-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Friday, January 20 against Cowanesque Valley.
