NEB girls soccer wins tournament

ROME -- The Northeast Bradford Panthers won their tournament for the third straight year, defeating Towanda 2-1 in the final.
The Panthers got on the board at 9:30 of the first quarter as Hannah Shadduck scored on a penalty kick as Towanda got a red card for a handball in the box preventing a goal. The card left Towanda playing a player down for the game.
"I was very impressed with our composure when faced with playing with 10 players," Towanda coach Dave Jurnack said. "Many new player were asked to step up and they did! We kept the pressure up but NEB was very determined and played a great game. We learned a lot about ourselves this game and will continue to grow as the season progresses."
The Panthers made it 2-0 in the second half when Karissa Cowles scored off an assist from Annaleigh Loziere.
Towanda got a goal back midway through the second half when Kourtney Dunn scored off an assist from Teagan Willey, but the Panthers held on for the win.
NEB had 15 shots and three corners and Kiah Russell made six saves in goal.
Towanda had eight shots and three corners and Erica Locke had five saves in net.
Towanda 6, Elk Lake 1
The Black Knights opened their season with a win over Elk Lake as Shayelyn Chandler had a four-goal game in the win.
Willey and Hannah Chilson had goals for Towanda. Saige Greenland, Olivia Sparbanie and Morgan Fenster had assists for Towanda.
Grasyn Bushnell scored for Elk Lake in the game.
Towanda had 33 shots and eight corners and Locke had five saves.
Elk Lake had nine shots and no corners and Lucy Ives had 15 saves for Elk Lake.
"Great opening game for us against a skilled opponent," Jurnack said. "We were able to play many new players in their first varsity game. I was especially impressed with our defensive game and the way we kept our intensity up throughout the game."
Towanda is at Athens on Wednesday.
NEB 3, NP-Mansfield 0
The Panthers scored two first-half goals in their opener on Saturday.
Karalyn Walter started things for NEB off an assist from Kara Brown and Hannah Shadduck followed with a pair of goals.
Shadduck scored at 36:09 of the first half after Walter's goal at 36:02. Shadduck added another goal at 47:00 of the second half off an assist from Abby Goble.
NEB had 24 shots and eight corners, with Russell making eight saves for the Panthers.
NP-Mansfield had seven shots and one corner kick and Alaina McKee had 16 saves in net for the Tigers.
NPM 2, Elk Lake 1 (In a second shootout)
After a scoreless game, and a 4-4 first shootout, the Tigers won the game in the second shootout on Saturday in the consolation game at the NEB Tournament.
Up 1-0 on penalty kicks down to the last person for each team, Elk Lake got a goal from starting keeper Lucy Ives to tie things at one.
Ryley Kotulka then won it for the Tigers on their final kick.
Alaina McKee had four straight stops for the Tigers to start the second shootout.
NPM had 33 shots and Elk Lake had 27 in the game. McKee made 19 saves for the Tigers and Ives and Brooke Arnold combined for 25 saves for Elk Lake.
