The Wellsboro Middle School Girls Basketball team started the season off 0-4 at the Wyalusing Tournament on Saturday, March 14.

The young Lady Hornets lost 38-6 to Loyalsock, 19-17 in overtime to Sayre, 19-12 to Susquehanna, and 14-11 to Williamson.

"We knew it was going to be a challenge playing in a tournament just seven practices into our season, with a very inexperienced team, but there is no substitute for game experience, so we chose to go," said head coach Darrell Morris. "The girls did a lot of good things throughout the day.We really need to do a much better job of taking care of the basketball, both dribbling and passing (103 turnovers in four games). We had leads late in three out of four of the games and our defense was actually pretty good throughout the day.We just have to find some ways to create more scoring. We have two and a half weeks until our season opener, and the girls seem eager to do well, so we look forward to showing improvement throughout the season."

Jena Boyce recorded 14 points, 10 rebounds, 17 steals, and 2 assists during the course of the day, while Chelsie English had 12 points, 17 rebounds, and 5 steals. Bailey Monks had 8 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 steals, Kiyah Boyce had 4 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 steals, and Lindsey Marmara finished with 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals. Emma Brandenburg and Kathryn Burnett both added 2 points.
