Hornet Track claims two 2nd place finishes

In their first meet of the season the Wellsboro Boys and Girls Track teams brought home two second place finishes at Canton on Tuesday, April 2.

Northern Tioga won both meets, followed by the Hornets and Canton.

In the girls meet Northern Tioga won with 104 points, Wellsboro scored 43, and Canton finished with 39. Northern Tioga's boys won with 92 points, Wellsboro scored 65, and Canton rounded out the team scoring with 32 points.

For the girls the 4x800 relay team finished 2nd in 12:24, sophomore Kathryn Burnett finished 3rd in the 100m hurdles (20.43), junior Caitlyn Callahan (13.97) was 4th in the 100m and junior Lauren Singer was 6th (14.30), and senior Elizabeth Macias (6:23) was 2nd in the 1600m run and 4th in the 800m (2:59).

Wellsboro's 4x100m relay finished 2nd (55.20) behind Northern Tioga (54.24), junior Savana Baltzley (1:10.0) was 2nd in the 400m, sophomore Madelyn Rudy (1:01.94) was 5th in the 300m hurdles, Singer (30.29) was 2nd in the 200m, sophomore Sophia Kurtz (67-ft, 5) and junior Nina Coolidge (62-ft, 5) were 3rd and 4th in the discus, and senior Harmony Benner (26-ft, 9.5) was 3rd in the shot put.

Callahan (15-ft, 10) and junior Megan Starkweather (14-ft, 2.25) were 2nd and 3rd in the long jump, freshman Lilly Abadi (4-ft, 6), freshman Sara Abadi (4-ft, 4), and freshman Jordan Judlin (4-ft, 4) were 3rd and 4th in the high jump, and the Lady Hornets won the javelin throw with sophomore Breighanna Kemp (82-ft, 5), Singer (73-ft, 6), and Coolidge (71-ft, 3) taking 1st, 3rd, and 4th.

For the boys sophomore Evan Hoover (18.23) and junior Brennan Warner (19.54) were 2nd and 3rd in the 110m hurdles, senior Brett Rudy (11.9) and sophomore Joseph Grab (12.0) were 2nd and 3rd in the 100m, junior Austin Richards (5:10) was 2nd in the 1600m, sophomore Aidan Fletcher (59.53) and sophomore Jonathan Wetzel (59.68) were 4th and 5th in the 400m, Warner (46.12) won the 300m hurdles, senior Bergen Weiner (2:25.70) was 5th in the 800m, Rudy (24.3) and Grab (24.5) were 1st and 2nd in the 200m, and sophomore Tylar Wright (13:15) was 4th in the 3200m.

Wellsboro won the 4x400m relay (3:50), senior Hunter Brown (115-ft, 7) was 2nd in the discus and 2nd in the shot put (36-ft, 3.5), junior Frank Kewitt (17-ft, 5.5) was 2nd in the long jump, junior Karter Witmer (35-ft, 8) won the triple jump, and senior Holden Kennedy and Kewitt took home the top two spots in the high jump (5-ft, 8).

Both teams start the year off at 1-1 (1-1 NTL) and will be back in action on Tuesday, April 9 at Athens.
