A 23-point 1st quarter led the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team to a 74-49 victory over Williamson on Friday, December 13.

Junior Joseph Grab and sophomore Isaac Keane were on fire right from the opening tip, combining for 22 of the Hornets' 23 points. The duo kept up their hot shooting in the second as they combined for 15 of 18 points, the remaining 3 coming from freshman Conner Adams, to extend the lead to 41-21 at halftime.

"It was a good team win," head coach Steve Adams said. "We got a little sloppy in spurts so we still have some areas to clean up but our effort has been very good in all of our games. I'm proud of the way the boys are working."

Grab led all scorers, and set a new career-high, with 30 points. Keane finished with a career-high 22 points, sophomore Darryn Callahan added 8 points, Adams finished with 6, sophomore Liam Manning had 5, and senior Tyren Wetzel sunk a three-pointer to round out the scoring.

Adams dished out 7 assists on the night with 4 steals and 2 rebounds, Callahan, Manning, and senior Ty Morral all grabbed 5 rebounds each, and Keane and Grab added 4 rebounds, and Grab also contributed 3 steals.

Wellsboro started off the night with a win in the JV game to improve to 2-0 to start the season, winning 49-24. Freshman Spencer Wetzel led Wellsboro with 12 points, freshman Cameron Brought had 10, and sophomore Ryan Sweet finished with 9.

The win improves the Hornets' record to 3-1 (2-0 NTL Large School Division). The team is off until next Wednesday, December 18 when they host North Penn-Liberty.
