The Wellsboro JV Football team suffered their first loss of the season to Jersey Shore on Monday, September 23.

Trailing 12-0 early on the Hornets cut the Bulldogs' lead in half midway through the 2nd quarter on a 15-yard pass from freshman Conner Adams to sophomore Ryan Sweet, cutting the lead in half.

Jersey Shore later increased their lead as a strip-fumble and return to take an 18-6 lead.

That's when the Hornets put on their rally caps.

With a running clock due to inclimate weather, Wellsboro scored again in the mid 4th quarter on a keeper along the right sideline by Adams for 65 yards. Freshman Jack Poirier converted the extra point and cut the lead to 18-13. As time was running out the Hornet defense stiffened and a made a stop on 4th-and-2 to give the offense another shot at midfield.

With less than 30 seconds on the clock Wwellsboro scored a touchdown as Adams ran it in along the near sideline fron 26 yards out, but the Hornets were hit with a block in the back that negated the score and ending the game.

"Our guys played their hearts out," coach Matt Sweet said following the game. "We struggled offensively but we never gave up. It was definitely a intense and difficult way to loose. Our defense played great all night and I'm proud of all our players. Jersey Shore has a great program and our guys competed aggressively and made it a fight."

The loss drops the Hornets to 4-1 on the year, and is their first loss since September 11, 2017. Wellsboro is back in action on the road in Athens on Monday, September 30.
