A late three-pointer propelled the Wyalusing Lady Rams over the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team, 21-20, on Tuesday, January 19.

The Lady Hornets struggled on the offensive end of the court for the majority of the first half but clawed their way back to come within four points at halftime as they trailed Wyalusing 13-9. Senior Bailey Monks cut the Lady Rams' lead to two points on a layup early on in the third then a mid-range jumper by senior Kiyah Boyce pulled Wellsboro to within a point. Wyalusing held a slim one-point lead after the third quarter came to a close, 16-15.

Wellsboro tied the game up at 16-all on a Boyce foul shot early on in the fourth and took the lead at 20-18 ob baskets by Boyce and junior Abbye Cavanaugh. Wyalusing, however, went on to foiled the Lady Hornets' first win on a Hailey Jayne three-pointer with 3:34 left to play.

Monks led the Lady Hornets on the night with 7 points, Cavanaugh scored 6, Boyce finished with 5, and senior Sarah Mosher rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

Jayne led all scorers on the evening with 8 points.

Wyalusing won the JV game 25-17. Freshman Emily Morris had 5 points to lead the young Lady Hornets.

The loss drops Wellsboro to 0-2 (0-2 NTL Large School Division). The team will turn around and face Wyalusing, in Wyalusing, on Saturday, January 23.
