The Wellsboro Middle School Soccer team beat Troy 3-2 in their season-opening game at home on Monday, September 13.

The Hornets took an early lead in the 8th minute as Jude Cuneo scored off from an assist from Cameron Owlett. Later, Jonathan Carl scored from an assist from David Seeling to put Wellsboro up 2-0 at the half. In the second half Wellsboro added another goal within the first eight minutes as Jacob Baldwin scored on a throw in from Lilah Paredes to make it 3-0.

Troy scored both of their goals after Wellsboro's third goal.

"The team was very excited for their first home game of the season and started off strong," first year head coach Derek Stevens said. "Troy found a will to conquer us by playing aggressively. We matched that intensity the last 8 minutes to outlast a tough Troy team."

Keeper Finn Matthews saved 10 shots in goal for Wellsboro.

In the B game Wellsboro had a 1-0 lead at the half, on an Ella Boyce goal, but the game was called due to severe weather conditions. Zander Rachiele had 2 saves in goal.

The win starts the Hornets' season off at 1-0. The team is back in action on Saturday, September 18 at Williamson.
