Wellsboro Wrestling team captures 1st win since 2017

The Wellsboro Wrestling team won their first match since the 2017 season by defeating Sayre in the season-opener, 36-25, on Tuesday, December 14.

Freshman Aiden Carson (132), freshman Silas Mickey (145), junior Aden Tom (160), freshman Ryder Bowen (172), and junior Joe Brown (215) all received forfeit victories. Senior Justice Harlan pinned the Redskins' Nathan Polzella in 1:59.

In other matches freshman Alec Magli dropped a 16-13 decision to Sayre's Jacob Carpenter at 113, freshman Will Gastrock lost a 14-3 major decision to Cameron McCutheon at 138, Jayden Gardner pinned freshman Jacob Dean in 46 seconds at 152, and senior Isaac Keane was pinned in 2:56 by Josh Wilson at 189.

There were double forfeits at 106 and 126.

The win starts out the Hornets at 1-0 (1-0 NTL). The team is back in action tomorrow at home against Wyalusing.
