Hornets place 9th at Sectionals

The Wellsboro Wrestling team finished 9th overall at the North Section Tournament at Athens on Saturday, February 19.

The Hornets finished with 14 points, ahead of Northeast Bradford (8) and Sayre (3). Canton took home the top spot with 187.5 points.

At 106 freshman Alec Magli scored a pin in 40 seconds in his 1st match against NEB's Kolton Keir but fell in the quarterfinals to Sullivan County's Colton Wade by pin fall in 37 seconds and was pinned in 3:26 by North Penn-Liberty's Brayden Pequignot in the consolation quarterfinals.

At 138 freshman Will Gastrock was pinned in 1:34 by Canton's Hudson Ward in the quarterfinals. Gastrock won his consolation quarterfinal match over NEB's Nathan Billings in 1:42.

Junior Aden Tom was pinned in 2:53 in his quarterfinal match at 145 by Troy's Jacob Hinman then suffered a 2:06 pin fall loss to Williamson's Owen Cummings in the consolation quarterfinals.

At 152 freshman Jacob Dean was pinned in 13 seconds by Athens' Karter Rude and was also pinned by Williamson's Aidric Passarello in 4:50.

At 172 freshman Ryder Bowen scored a pin fall win in 3:39 over Wyalusing's Brian Arnold before suffering a 1:32 pin in the semi-finals to Canton's Riley Parker. Bowen then dropped a 14-4 major decision to Williamson's Tim Freeman.

Senior Isaac Keane dropped his quarterfinal match to North Penn-Liberty's Gaven Sexauer in 3:02 and then fell to Towanda's Aiden Miller in 2:48 in the consolation quarterfinals.

Junior Joe Brown lost an 8-1 decision to North Penn-Liberty's George Valentine at 215. Brown won his consolation quarterfinal match in 43 seconds over Troy's Dan Samuels but then fell in the consolation semi-finals to Canton's Connor Davis in 3:23.

At 285 senior Justice Harlan fell to Towanda's Jared Gunther in 1:22 before suffering a 15-1 major decision loss to Athens' Josh Nittenger in the consolation semi-finals.
