The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team fell 16-5 to Wyalusing on Thursday, April 14.

After the Lady Rams took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st, the Lady Hornets answered back in the bottom half of the inning with 3 runs. After a lead off walk by junior Jordyn Abernathy and a base hit by junior Rylie Boyce, Abernathy scored to tie the game after Boyce was thrown out stealing 2nd. A walk by junior Molly Ingerick and base hit by junior Madaline Bordas put two on for sophomore Abby Owlett. Owlett reached on error but still drove home Ingerick and Bordas, putting Wellsboro up 3-1.

The lead would be short lived, however, as the Lady Rams plated 6 runs in the top of the 2nd to retake the lead. Wyalusing would also put up 4 more runs in the 3rd and added 5 more in the 5th.

Wellsboro scored single runs in both the 3rd and 4th innings. In the 3rd Bordas stole home after a walk and double by freshman Alexandra Urena. In the 4th senior Abbye Cavanaugh scored on a fly out by Boyce.

The Lady Hornets produced 7 hits on the afternoon. Abernathy led the way with a pair of doubles while Bordas, Boyce, senior Emma Coolidge, Cavanaugh, and Urena all adding solo hits. Boyce started on the mound and threw 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing 11 runs (7 earned) on 10 hits with a walk and 2 strikeouts. Urena pitched 2 and 1/3 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 2 hits with 6 walks and 4 strikeouts.

The loss drops the Lady Hornets' record to 2-6 (0-6 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Tuesday, April 19 at South Williamsport.
